Hi everyone, welcome to my DA page. So I'm supposed to write something about myself here..

Let's begin with my interest in photography which started in December 2007. I've never put my camera away since and taught myself the basics of photography. Obviously I'm still learning.

I love beauty (who doesn't?), and I'm only glad that I found this particular instrument (my Nikon D40) to make beautiful things myself. In fact I can change the world into a wonderful place just by looking through my viewfinder (and OK, sometimes with a little help from Photoshop). My favourite categories are animals and nature, although I like to sidetrack doing portraits and city photography.

For two years I've studied Bioinformatics which drastically increased my knowledge of scientific research and biology (I sure needed that for I was a hardcore alpha student at high school). Later I switched to Linguistics and that reveals my other passion: languages and writing.

Let's say I love to communicate, to express myself, be creative and translate my feelings to either images or words..

Interests
I often find it hard to make up my mind. This also affects my photography.. until this day I haven't decided what type of photography I prefer (which might not be the type at which I do best). I like macro photography (but I don't have a macro lens), I love portraits (but I don't think I'm good at them), and I love nature and animals.

A while ago vintage/retro photography got really really popular again. Even before everyone started using Apples Instagram. And I can't help but love the nostalgic, colourful, expressive retro photographs 'of the past', although they are very different from the high qualitative, natural images that are preferably not edited. So I'm balancing again, this time between natural images and heavily edited ones. I like them both, I'm tempted to go for retro but then again I don't think adding some textures and filters is much of a skill. I don't want to trivialize anyones efforts and inspiration, but that's what it comes down to for me, in most cases. Trying out the cool stuff that photo-hosting websites and simple editing programs offer. I can't be proud of that can I?

Maybe it's not a bad thing to have changing interests and to be inspired by different things all the time. Maybe I have to accept that I might not ever make up my mind, and keep doing the things I want when I want them. Maybe that's why I stopped taking pictures all together for a while. Just because I didn't feel like it. And when I started to miss it, I picked up my camera again.
